Group exhibition: Escapes
Curator: Ana Karaminova – art objective
24.10. – 23. 11. 2014 | GEDOK GALERIE – Berlin
On the occasion of the European Month of Photography in Berlin 2014, art objective conceived the concept for the group exhibition “Escape” for GEDOK-Galerie Berlin.
Based on the ubiquitous phenomenon of escape, the participating artists offered various photo-based and video works on the subject and focused on the political and psychological dimensions of the concept. ‘Escape’ is captured in images as a dynamic and complex process of searching, exile and hope and the ‘escapes’ are shown from engaging perspectives– from experiences of strong individuals to historical contextualizations of the term.
The strong ability to reflect in the mediums of photography and video is felt in the various materials and formats of the exhibited works. Analog as well as digital photography found form in photo prints, posters, and slide projections. Abstract and representational forms harmonized with each other and encouraged open-ended reading. The formal and conceptual spectrum of the topic is reflected in the range of installation approaches of the work: classical, installation and wall-encompassing.
